Aberdeen based Swellfix growing in 2008
ABERDEEN, Scotland -- March 1, 2008 -- Swellfix B.V., a global leader in swellable elastomers for zonal isolation, announced today that has recently opened new offices in South America and the Middle East.
The Company recently appointed new managers and vice presidents to serve in Africa, the Americas and the Middle East region.
“We are expanding our operations significantly this year to meet growing demand for our products,” says Swellfix chief executive officer John Dewar.
“It is less than 18 months since Swellfix was incorporated as a company and we have now deployed our downhole swellable systems in virtually every oil-producing province in the world.
“This year we have already commissioned a new test facility at our world headquarters here in Aberdeen and we have made a number of key managerial appointments. During the course of 2008, we expect the number of people employed by Swellfix to increase by almost fifty percent, taking the total to around 50. This will include new jobs in Aberdeen to support our growing network of regional offices.”
Swellfix provides a wide range of zonal isolation, Cement Protection™ and other swellable elastomer applications for the oil and gas industry. The Company is unique in terms of the range and diversity of the compounds it can provide, allowing bespoke deployment in virtually any well environment. The new testing facility which is equipped with blast proof walls will allow the Company to continue to enhance and improve its products and ensure that they can withstand a variety of conditions.
“Our technology is ideal for the types of mature oil provinces, where increasing amounts of oil in water is expected,” continues John. “Swellfix swellable packers can deliver cost and production benefits to virtually any well where zonal isolation is important, at any stage of its life.”
Swellfix’s technology already has an enviable track record, with more than 3,500 downhole installations of its technology without any failures.
The Company believes the key to its success is the bespoke service it offers.
“No two fields have exactly the same conditions, so our philosophy is to create individual solutions for every situation we encounter,” says John. “The key to success with swellable materials is carefully matching the elastomer compound to the specific well conditions. Oil viscosity, composition and water content all effect how an elastomer will swell. This is why we have developed hundreds of different compounds, which compares with just a handful of off-the-shelf materials offered by our competitors.”
